โšพ Elevator Pitch:

With ride-sharing, all you have to do is just pull out your smartphone, book a driver, and your ride is on the way. However, ride-sharing giants like Uber and Lyft are yet to touch the massive freight market of transportation. They changed the game with Uber Pool & Lyft Line (which filled up empty seats going in the same direction). But freighting companies are still flushing money down the drain โ€“ 43% of the time, freight trucks are driving COMPLETELY empty.

Enter Onward Delivery, a platform to help retailers take advantage of freight shipments without renting a whole truck. Retailers submit their delivery request (be it a sofa or washing machine), and Onward instantly matches and prices the delivery to a truck that is already headed in the same direction. Onward Delivery has already partnered with 20 delivery companies and has over 500 trucks in service.

Onward matches large good onto trucks that are already heading towards your recipient.

๐Ÿ” Why we like it

  1. ๐Ÿ“ˆ Clear business value to both freighters and retailersWhen a retailer books a box truck, itโ€™s rarely full. They pay for the full space on the truck, and pay for the round-trip. This makes costs unbearable to retailers. Onward Delivery makes it easier for underutilized trucks to pick up freight while on road. The platform matches shipments to a truck already headed in the same direction. This ensures a quicker and more efficient shipping model. This also allows freighters to source business from multiple retailers at the same time.

  2. ๐ŸŽ๏ธ They are expanding their services to more trucks and more locationsOnward is primarily focused on shipping of heavy goods like remodeling supplies and furniture. They aim to bring same-day delivery to rural and suburban areas. The company recently raised $4.7 million to grow reach more trucks and areas. Grafton Elliott, founder of Onward wants to run a complete chain of trucks across the country, hoping to eliminate the need for freight delivery. "Thereโ€™s really never been a better way to start a company. Our aim is to hire more drivers and make the model more efficient," says Elliott.

  3. ๐Ÿ‘ซ The team is stacked and ready to growOnward took part in lowa Accelerator in 2021 and partnered with 75 retailers across 6 states. At that moment, everyone was trying to solve the supply chain challenges of the final-mile delivery solution. Now that Onward has secured some funding, the capital will help the company grow its team to new markets. The company hopes to be in 15 markets and doubles its fleet by the end of 2022.
